US President Donald Trump has imposed a 100 percent tariff on imports of pharmaceutical products, effective from October 1, 2025. It seems that Indian pharmaceutical exporters may face trouble due to Trump’s decision.
According to a Hindustan Times report, Trump signed the directive on Thursday and said that we will impose a 100% tariff on any branded pharmaceutical product.
US is the largest market for Indian pharmaceutical exporters | Indian pharmaceutical exporters to export $3.6 billion worth of medicines to the US market in 2024.
Which is about (31,626 crore) rupees in Indian prices and the export volume in 2025 will increase to 3.7 billion (32,505 crore) rupees in Indian prices.
Indian exporters have already been hit by a 50 percent tariff. However, US President Donald Trump has imposed tariffs on several products besides medicines.
For example – Kitchen cabinets and home furnishings will now be subject to duty | 30% on home furnishings and 50% on kitchen cabinets | Also, a 25% duty will be imposed on large trucks
