After Durga Puja, the greatest festival of Bengalis, comes Ras Utsav. The pride of Navadwip — Ras Utsav. One of the most important attractions of this festival is the worship of Goddess Bhadra Kali.This puja, celebrated in Charichara Bazar and Harisaba Para of Nabadwip, is not just a religious ritual, but also a symbol of the deep faith and trust of the local people.
The tradition of making vows to Goddess Bhadra Kali has been going on for ages. Devotees used to make vows during this Barwari Puja in Charichara Para of Nabadwip. They used to follow strict rules to fulfill their vows.By following the rules and performing special rituals, especially on the Navami day, when the vow is fulfilled, the devotees perform a unique ritual called “Dhuno Porano” — which is known as the main feature of this puja.
There are several rules for burning this dhuno. Devotees have to eat a vegetarian diet from the day before the puja. On the day of puja, they take a bath in the Ganges before sunrise, enter the temple with wet clothes on their wet bodies and pay homage to the goddess.
On the afternoon of Navami, a selected devotee sits dressed in pure white clothes. Dhuno is burned on his head and hands, which is a sign of devotion on the one hand and a symbol of infinite tolerance and faith on the other.
